To live is to learn

Now I want to give you a few tips that I have learnt over the past year, you do not have to listen to me but I like to learn new things so maybe I can pass on some useful information.

Packing

I have just sent my suitcase home and am extremely annoyed at myself for bringing so much stuff that I didn’t use yet I can’t bare to throw away (I’m a hoarder).

Most of the clothes I originally brought didn’t even make the cut into my sent suitcase or the one I am taking travelling, and half of them I didn’t even wear. Bring clothes of course but you do not need to overpack, or bring anything else for that matter. Especially not that many shoes!!! I sent 10 pairs home!!! Admittedly, I have a shoe problem.

Money

Save from the beginning!!! Even if it is only a little to begin with, trust me you will thank your past self when you have money to go on a month trip around America or even just to take home.

Communication

You may feel like the people at home have forgotten about you but don’t forget to keep in touch with your most loved ones, they probably miss you more than you miss them.

Work

Listen to your collegues, you will learn so much from them, and how to do things the way they should be done.

Work hard, this experience is about work experience so make sure you work hard and it will make your life so much easier.

Take time to relax, work can kill you off sometimes and you need to make sure you rest on some of your days off to avoid overworking yourself.

Outside of work

Have the most amazing experiences! Go on trips to Miami and Disneyworld, go to Key West or to see the Alligators you will not regret it. Work hard and play harder, sometimes having the best night of your life is worth being in work at 8am the next day with only 1 hours sleep and you feel like death.

Have no regrets! I have not regretted a single thing about this year, I have done the things I wanted to do and even loved my job, I just wish I could stay for longer.

Keep in touch with your work collegues from all over the world, it may be useful in the future when they want to come to your country or you want to go to theirs.

Most importantly…

Have the best year of your life!

I am so sad this year is over, but I am off travelling around the USA for one month before I get home (more on that later).
