To Travel Is To Live

Back in 2012 I knew I wanted to do a course at University with a placement year in America, at that point, I wanted to do English Language (swiftly changed my mind after two years of it for A-Levels). When I had changed my mind to doing Event Management (due to my love of business and events) I applied to five universities based on their placement option, fast forward to June 2016 and I was on a plane to America to have one of the best years of my life.

The reason I chose to leave the UK for my placement was for the cultural impact it would have on me, most people I have met here are from countries I have never even been to and in just 7 months I have learnt so much. Especially that we should count ourselves lucky being from such a strong little island (even with political issues). Now do not get me wrong, doing a placement in the UK is great because it allows you to gain experience rather than just coming out of university with a paper grade. However, imagine stepping out of your comfort zone and going into a completely different country, experiencing a completely different working environment and learning so many different things about cultures and having experiences that you will remember for the rest of you life, why would you not want to grab the opportunity by the hands and go for it! I call this my ‘second life’, at home I have worked in a world known organisation and that was a fantastic platform to start myself on, now I am in a prestige country club in a country with one of the best hospitality industries in the world, my friends here are my family and they are all extremely interesting and fantastic people. I actually enjoy working because of the people I work with, despite working long hours. I have had days out that I will remember forever and have so many more fantastic experiences to come that I do not want to go back to boring England.

I have grown so much as an individual, in working environments I have gained and improved skills and as a person I have become so much more mature and open minded about the world that I feel I could be put into most situations and be able to have a positive mindset.

I am not lying when I say that this is already one of the best years of my life and I am only half way through the adventure.
